I don't see what the problem is with the color of that oil, it looks ok to me. If you REALLY needed an oil change, it would be a hell of a lot darker than that.

Go buy some ramps, some synthetic oil and a filter, and do it yourself...it takes about half an hour to do an oil change.

Any time I buy a car (new or used) I make sure the first thing I do is change the oil...I don't trust the brands most places use, especially dealerships where they have a 30 gallon drum full of oil to fill cars up with.

I say change it because you are over the 3500 which Subaru says to have it done in severe heat or harsh driving conditions. They say 7500 miles in perfect, cool, dustless conditions.

On a side note you cant tell ANYTHING from oil by looking it at. Color has nothing to do with it's protecting your engine. I say change it either way through. No use in not doing at at 4k miles.

One last thing.....you racked up those miles quicks.

I have had all of my oil changes tested there. Except the last one - I forgot.

Oil looks like that in all gasoline engines. Ever see oil from a diesel? It turns black almost instantly.
