Go to your dealer and ask them for an oil filter for a 2006 wrx (and in case you use the same dealer I do be sure to tell them it's a 2.5l and yes it has a turbo, because they are going to ask). Then once they give you the part number ask them if you buy a case do you get a discount. The PN should be 15208aa100.

By doing this if you ever need any kind of warranty work done on the engine you elimate the chance of them saying "Fram isnt an OEM filter" or any of that garbage. A good filter is going to run you between 4-6 bucks anyway so why not go to the dealer.

While your there might want to pick up a few crush washers for the drain plug.

After seeing many of these, I went with the OEM. The look like solid, well made filters.

No need to be sorry. Try the OEM filters and Mobil 1 - you will do fine.

You can spend several hours searching Nasioc.com/forums about oil, and you'll basically be told at the end of the day there isnt any "best" oil. Some people like to keep it convential oil or a syn. blend up to 10,000 miles before going to a full syn. This is what I'm keeping by and dont plan on going to M1 until past 10,000 (which will be at the 12k mile oil change).

With that being said I've ran Castrol Syn. Blend 5-30 on the last oil change and never burned a drop.

The common belief at this point is as long as you change your oil/filter on a reg. basis and within the guidelines then you shouldnt have any issues. Be sure to check the oil often after any brand/vescority/make changes to check for consumption.

There is a forum and I think it's Bobistheoilguy.com or something simular...those folks live and breath oil. If you have the time/ambition knock yourself out. Otherwise pick a good name brand, the correct weight, and keep an eye on usage.

    Check link above. http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi

I made the M1 switch at 6600 miles. No oil consumption here ...

I tend to think it doesnt matter either as motors today are made with very good tolernces, and oil tech. is fairly decent. The only way to tell if the switch was/is done at the wrong time would be to have two cars tested on a treadmill under exact conditions and have a lab test the oil for breakdown and other crucial information.

When someone blows up a shortblock they will very rarely discuss the oil changing habits of the car, and rather focus on the "I was at 3k in 3rd or 4k in 5th gear". Sure the oil might not contribute but it seems more then not people dont post there maitance in those threads.

Like I said you'll get some people saying I switched at 3k, some at 10k some at 50k. Some will say they lose a quart, leak none, or the motor blew. It's often times hard to contribute a blown motor to oil types, so it isnt attempted.

Do your research, stay in side subarus warranty guidelines, check oil often, change on a regular basis, and you should be more then ok. At this point it comes down to personal prefernce.
