Lug nuts on Wheels 4 out of 5? Thread issue

I just got some new lug nuts because the previous owner did not include the key for the lug nuts I had on the car.

I did find an adapter that allowed me to take out those old lug nuts but as I was putting on the new lugs I realized I cross threaded one of my lug nuts. After removing the wheel I noticed that there seemed like little damage to the hub screw but the lug nut it self was really hot. I figured most of the damage was done to the nut and the thread looked like crap. The screw looked pretty good for most of its length but a little warped on the tip.

So the real question is as I was trying to put on another lug nut on the same hub screw it would not "catch"

How safe would it be to run my car with 4 nuts in out of 5? and.....

    What should i do.

    a. grind off a half of a centimeter off of the hub screw?
    b. take it to subaru to fix the problem for potentially lots of $$?
    c. Insert your solution here.

    Thanks.

Go for choice C and replace the wheel stud. It's a cheap part and an easy job. Remove the brake caliper and torque member. remove the rotor pop out the old stud and pop in the new one.

If the lugnut is threading on a good stud ok then just use it otherwise get a new one.

If only the first 1/4" or so of threads are a little off, clean them up with a die.

+1 or bring it to a local tire shop. The tire shop that put my tires on cross threaded one lug. I brought it back to them after I realized this when I took my wheels of to put my springs in and they replaced it in about 15 min. free of charge.
