I purchased my 2011 WRX with 53k miles on it about two weeks ago. I started noticing the RPMs shooting up from 3.5k to 5k and then going back down. I thought it was maybe the turbo kicking in as I wasn’t fully used to the car yet. This week I could definitely tell it was the clutch that was going out and when I was coming home from work it wouldn’t grab at all in 1st or 2nd. As you would expect the Dealership I bought it from won’t cover it since it’s a wearable item…They even had the nerve to tell me that it could have been my fault and that clutches can definitely go out in two weeks if you are racing it.
Anyways, I brought it to the Subaru dealership and they are wanting $2200 for the clutch replacement. They said they could “work with me” on the price since I just bought the vehicle, but I completely thought this was absurd as I’ve read that most places are doing it for around $1000 to $1500…I called around and found an honest guy that can do it for $1200. Would you guys trust a third party shop or should I stick with the dealership so I’ll have the peace of mind that they do it correctly? They also said that the clutch will be under warranty for one year/unlimited miles, but I don't think that's worth it for another grand in my opinion.
