05 WRX died while driving, gas guage and temp guage malfunction.

Hi guys! New WRX owner here. Yesterday I was driving to work and my 2005 WRX cut out on me, came back, cut out again, came back again, and then died. The car turns over but won't fire. Also the gas guage reads empty, (I just topped it off the day prior) and the temperature guage spiked to max. I let the car sit for 8+ hours while I was at work and when I returned the car still read empty and the temp guage spiked as soon as I turned the key over with the car being stone cold. I initially thought their might be a blown fuse, loose connection, or possibly a bad crank sensor. I have checked the fuses and their good, and my connections are solid and intact. I borrowed a code reader from a local parts store but it couldn't hold a charge when plugged in. I'm leaning to a faulty ecu but I have very little experience with these cars. If anyone has any insight or suggestions regarding my current dilemma, I would appreciate it greatly!!! Thanks for taking the time to read my post, have a great day!

When you say bad connections do you mean you checked the grounds? If it is not give a CEL it seems likely to be an electrical issue however I'm not sure if I would jump to a faulty ecu just yet.

Yes I checked the grounds and there is no check engine light. My buddy is going to drop off his code reader when I get off work, so I'm hoping that leads to something, because right now I'm kinda stumped.
