    2012 WRX - Engine knock

I had a minor rattle while driving the other day. The next day I took the car up to get my oil change and asked if they could look under the car while it was on the lift to see if anything was loose (I am hoping the heat shield needs to be tightened or at worse a throw out bearing replaced). He came back and said the engine had a knock. So they gave me a loaner while the new short block is being installed.

My question is: What could have caused the engine to go after only 36,580 miles? Is this common among newer WRX? Is it time to dump the car and look for another one?

PS. I purchased the extended warranty so the dealer is paying for everything.

Sometimes parts are just faulty. Unfortunately, you fell into the small percentage of factory failures. It happens, and it's not likely that it was something you did. Just manufacturer defect really.
