    Help! Terrible engine noise

So my car stopped running one day and I thought it was bad compression. Pulled the motor and did head gaskets. Started the engine and it's making the same terrible noise that it made right before it stopped running. Video of the noise is below. Please help!

When i had the heads done at a local machine shop, they thought the valves were all good, and it made the same noise before.there wasn't any visible internal damage either. If timing was off that bad would it even run?

That is nearly the same sound my 02 Outback made and it turned out to be the timing belt.

Did you just replace the timing belt and the noise went away? Or did you have internal damage since they're interference motors?

It had been making that noise for a few weeks until I figure out what it was. I was scheduled to have the belt changed and two days before the engine quit on the way home. Every valve was bent. I don't think they were bent until the motor stopped running.

If the timing is off by just a few teeth they'll bend. They're very close
