Lots of folks have had issues with m1. You have to get the right one, if you get the energy conservation version it's basically the worst oil you can put in a subaru.

I use OEM filters and Amsoil XL 5w-30. I'm at 4900 miles and haven't used any oil. I'll change the oil in another 1100 miles and stick with 3k intervals.

I agree 100%. Our cars are very picky about oil and filters. The K&N filter is garbage. Like me and soloz2 said about OEM and Wix filters these are the only ones you should use. Most filters lack the psi that our cars require. I had been using the dealers Castrol synthetic, but I didn't care for Castrol, so I switched to Amsoil 5W-30. If you ask around Amsoil is very popular and high quality.

Okay thanks guys I'll be returning the K & N filter. Also is a wix filter only something I can get online or what parts store may have them? I searched autozone and they don't seem to have them. This may also seem like a stupid question but obviously to get an OEM filter would me to go to my local subaru dealer and get one from there right? Sorry if they're dumb questions but this is my first oil change on it and I wanna do things right since I never worked on a subaru

You can get OEM filters at the dealership, or check out fredbeans.com. WIX filters are sold at your local NAPA auto parts store. The NAPA filters are manufactured by WIX - I've never actually bought a WIX filter right from WIX, just the NAPA ones. Good quality filters. If you ever need any belts (long ways down the road I'm assuming), the NAPA belts are manufactured by GATES. NAPA has good stuff.

I got my WIX filter at Orielys, although they did not have them on the shelf. The employee had to grab it from the back. Number for the filter is 57712.
