    02 WRX Engine Issue

Hi all. Posting for my son who recently bought an 02 WRX. Has had no issues until today while driving to work. Said it suddenly lost power steering and brakes, then engine shut down. Would turn over and try to fire but wouldn't go. Called me and I jumped it hoping it just wasn't turning fast enough. We got it to fire but it had a gawd awful knocking noise and seemed like things weren't synced. Had him immediately shut it off and towed it.

My guess - Timing belt. Anyone else want to guess?

    Doesn't sound good.

    How many miles?
Timing belts are supposed to be done at 105k.

165000 give or take. He's only put about 1000 on it so not sure if it was replaced
