'07 WRX Shaking engine during boost/flashing CEL/no codes dropped

Today under heavy acceleration in 3rd gear the engine began shaking, I shifted to 4th and it stopped, but a flashing CEL Popped up for a few seconds then disappeared. I stopped the car about a half mile down the road after driving easy noticing no further issues. I plugged in my OBDii scanner and no codes popped up. there wasn't anything stored in the freeze frame either. I couldn't tell you the brand of scanner I use off hand, but i have used it before and it does read codes on my car.

I drove the car 40 additional miles (gingerly) today without a hiccup, the idle is as smooth as it gets, there's no knocking or misfire sounds, and I haven't recently fueled up.

I have had a cylinder 4 misfire problem before to solve it I changed the plugs, the coil pack, the MAF sensor, front and rear airflow sensors, swapped the fuel injector, got a tune, took it to two dealerships (and got the run around from both of them), and finally took the car to a specialist who did a valve timing adjustment and solved all the problems.

This hopefully won't be as expensive.

I'm not worried about burning up my CAT because I have none, I just have no idea why a misfire issue (what i suspect is the problem) would not throw a code if the CEL came on.

Anyone have any thoughts on what the issue could be?

Flashing CEL is a gross misfire. Did you check for pending codes?

I don't think my scanner has that option, the only two ways of pulling codes is to check the current codes and the stored codes (freeze frame). Still, if something popped up it should have stored it in memory.

BUMP im having the very same issue
    2006 Subaru WRX Limited Sedan
    20g turbo
    walboro 255l pump
    perrin fmic
    cobb sf intake
    perrin turbo inlet
    cobb EBCS
    Grimmspeed AOS

    Just did an engine overhaul
    New ej257 short block
Valve job and cylinder head resurfacing
    new timing belt kit
new oil system (pan, pick up, baffle)

After the rebuild, it was running lean and it was stuttering and stalling. I was Also getting a flashing CEL when it reached 3krpm rev. Turns out there was a major vacuum leak and turned out the PCV was cracked and the other hose on the crankcase breather was kinked shut (replaced both). I also threw in some injector cleaner because the car sat for a few months while i rebuilt the motor.

After all that work I reset the ECU and let it idle up to operating tempurature and a couple of fan cycles because I was burping the coolant.

It ran like a dream after I did all of that, but once the gas level started getting lower than a quarter tank mark it started acting up again. I filled it up but it continued to run like crap.

It could be something as simple as a fuel filter and as serious as skipped timing. I dont want to keep throwing parts at it to fix it, so I would really like some insight
