    Unhappy Stiff Power Steering

    Hello Everyone! Im new at this club, yesterday I bought a 09 Impreza WRX SE and its an amazing car!

    But theres something Im afraid of. When I am parking or the car is completely stop but the engine is running, Ive noticed that the power steering gets sometimes really hard/stiff, as if there was no power assistance.... Im little afraid of this!!! there are no leaks, the belt is ok, there are no noises from the pump, and the reservoir level is fine! any comments will be much appreciated!!!

    Could be air in the system, while your stopped bring the revs up a little and turn the wheel and see if it goes away.

    Stiff Power Steering

    I had this a month ago.

    Not every time but quite often when I tried to pull out of a parking spot the steering would go all heavy and judder.

    I did try bleeding but didn't help. Take the reservoir cap off and turn to full lock a few times.

    I took it to a specialist. When I explained the symptoms he immediately said belt. He replaced that and the cambelt and that fixed it he showed me the old belt and there was a bald spot on it which was causing the problems

    I wouldn't leave it. If it is the P/S belt it maybe the timing belt hasn't been changed either....and we all know what happens if that breaks!

    Stiff Power Steering

    The timing belt is due at 105K. The PS belt isn't listed by interval, but my first one lasted 80 K.

    If there's no juice coming out suspect the belt first since it's a wear item and the cheapest explanation. The rest get messy but on a newer car they're unlikely.

    My first only lasted 58k.

    Mines still good at 102 but it is creaking and squeaking

    The interval is 105K or 105 months. Usually the 105K cones first but in your case the 105 months passed. I wish I could drive that seldom.

    that's how I bought it. I'm putting on 600 miles a week (and loving it)

    After coming across this thread, I have started to notice my steering wheel gets stiff at idle...and possibly hears a squeak when I went full lock?
    This thread jinxed me

    Thank you all guys! This week Ill check both P/S and Cam belts to see if there is any signs of wear... The car is 09 with 40K miles and looks like new! There are no squeaks anytime (neither at full lock). Ive also researched that there were some issues worn Orings at the pump lines... not sure about that....
