    Engine swap advice

    Good morning,

I'm a new member as of a few mins ago... I have a 2003 bugeye WRX wagon.

A few months ago, one of my idler pulleys for my timing belt froze up, causing the the belt to break, So now i'm trying to swap the engine out. It currently has a JDM EJ20, and 5 speed manual tranny. I''m sure it wasn't the fastest WRX on the road, but I loved driving it, so after the swap, it needs to be as good if not better than before... (I have the numbers off the block, but haven't found a site to reference) Number is: B6754xx. Every AVCS 2.0 seems to be Cxxxxxx. Is this accurate or am i just assuming?

I suppose my main question is, how do i determine if my current engine has avcs, if it doesn't, can i swap one with avcs in its place, and what else would be involved if i do so? I really need the new engine to simply fit right into place, don't have tools or know-how to do too much mod. right now
Sorry for the newbie questions, but I'd really appreciate any and all help. Thanks

You have a USDM WRX with a JDM EJ20? Are you sure you don't have a EJ205? It's very common to swap shortblocks and just reuse heads. Unless they did a complete longblock swap you probably don't have AVCS. The only way to tell is the heads should have AVCS solenoids on the back of the heads (backside of the cams)
