    2012 wrx strange noise

I'm hearing a pretty audible noise that sounds like a vcr or cassette tape rewinding. It's really becomes noticeable in 4th and 5th gear and gets louder as my speed increases. The best way to describe it is like a loud whirring. I can't exactly pinpoint where it's coming from but I should note i still hear it when I go into neutral, although it get's much quieter. It's definitely not tire/road noise. I took it in to the dealer and they thought it was the ic to tb hose. They said they tightened it, but when i got my car back the sound is still there. I plan on bringing the car back to try and diagnose what the issue could be but i wanted to see if anyone else dealt with this as well. Car is stock with an spt exhaust and spt short shifter.

    Video??
I know there's a tsb for a noise when you left off the throttle. Something to do with transfer driven bearings or something. Have them look into that if that's the noise. I hear mine every now and then i don't know how serious it is if at all... has something to do with temperature differences

Thanks for the response. The noise i hear has gotten pretty constant once i'm going around 45-50 mph and up, especially on the highway.

    It's the transmission speaker.

My 07 WRX is making this strange noise as well, lighter, but similar to the sound while in reverse. I'd be interested in hearing if you find a successful fix.

It turned out to be a bad transfer bearing. I replaced it and the noise went away..

Is there another name for this? The dealership doesn't seem to know what it is. (I can change my oil and brakes, but beyond that I haven't got involved). Perhaps the service guy was inexperienced I talked to.
