    Are hood liners necessary?

Just got my car back from the body shop. They had to replace the hood from hail damage and DID paint the underside of the hood, but didn't put a liner back on. My understanding is that hood liners keep clear coat from getting too hot and peeling ...and in an engine fire, it helps smother the flames so you have time to get out. Not really sure of the pros and cons other than that.

The job isn't complete, then. Make them install the liner.

This. Regardless of whether it's needed or not, they were paid to do a job and didn't 100% complete it.

I agree, guys. I think they owe me a liner... I can take it off or put it on as I want, but they should have installed it. I think they thought if they painted the underside they didn't have to put a new liner on. Oh insurance repairs are just too much fun.
    thnx

haha doubt it was on purpose because of your sex, more likely than not it was just due to laziness and poor customer care. Getting them to give you a zebra print one may be more of a stretch, but may be worth a shot haha.

I do not think they are needed at all. Been removing the ones from my cars for over 20 years now. Why? Read on: How to safely clean an engine bay

That is laziness on their part, unless they wanted the paint to fully cure before installing. The notion they help put a fire out is false. I think the Mythbusters even took that one on.

I haven't heard back from ins. or body shop..
Do the newer Impreza's come with liners? If people pull them all the time anyway, I would think they wouldn't put them on vehicles any longer if they serve no purpose. I'm wondering if that might be why one wasn't ordered with the new hood...

Oh well... unfortunately, the whole thing's been an ordeal.
