    timing belt question

so, i know the timing belt should be changed at 105k based on the maintenance schedule however, is this an item that should be done at a certain age regardless of mileage?

my wrx will be 7 years old in september but i have just barely over 69k miles. most cars average about 15k a year so realistically based on that, most people would change their belt at 7 years of age anyway. get it? make sense? am i going crazy? lol

Yes there is a time limit on the service as well as a distance limit. I don't recall off hand but check your manual, it lists the number of months after which the belt should be replaced.

I have found that visually inspecting the belt isn't all that helpful. Mine looked great when the time (ahem! pun!) came to replace it, and I almost felt bad doing so because the old belt looked so "good."

EDIT: For US 2,0L cars it's actually easier to remember than I'd thought, it's 105k miles or 105 months. Behold, pg 2 of the following:

    So that's 8 years and 9 months.

Ok I did a little bit of search cause I was wondering also. so apperantly the rubber on the belt goes off with age and requires to be replaced regardless of 105k or 105 months.
