    1.0 bar is not abnormal.

Depending on what units you're talking about, that sounds normal.

Does getting into boost put a smile on your face? personally, 1 PSI wouldn't, but 1 bar should.

    haha enjoy!

well i looked at it today and noticed that it was reading at .05 at max but most of the time sets in the -zones which if i remember right is vacuum and not getting air from the turbo also seems to be alot of noise under the hood

Welcome to a turbo car. If you're not putting the engine under load to force air into it from the turbo, then the engine will just act like what it is: a large air pump. It's going to pull air in to the combustion chambers so that it can go kablooey, then spit exhaust out.

Is the gauge in Bar or Megapascal? 0.1 Megapascal = 1 Bar.

If the gauge is reading 0.5 Bar or 0.05 MPa this is 7 PSI and it is wastegate pressure. I'd be concerned that the car's ECU is limiting boost due to the allotted KCA being pulled due to knock. Do you have any way to datalog?

You won't hear it! But your knock sensor will. Bet your IAM dropped below 6 and you're in failsafe fueling.
