    Shifter rattle

So I'm new here.. been browsing the forums for about a week and haven't seen anyone with this similar issue..
while driving i can hear a rattle coming from my shifter. if i hold it in a certain position the rattle stops, it seems as though at higher speeds it rattles a bit more consistent. Anyone have any ideas on what this may be to ease my mind? I have owned the car for a little over a week now, so every little noise gets to me haha.

    What year is the car?

If under warranty: take it to the dealer.
If not: remove the shift boot and trim and check for any loose bolts in the upper linkage. If that checks out, get under the car and check the torque on the shifter bushings (front and rear) and have someone in the car cycle through all the gears with you looking at the linkage from under the car (watch fingers!) to check for any clearance issues.

There are lots of writeups on bushing installs, so check those out for pictures on what to be looking for.

    Welcome, and happy hunting.

Its a 2003 and definitely isn't under warranty.. i did see a few of those bushing installs. Im far from a mechanic but definitely dont mind at least looking at things to make sure there isnt anything loose. Thanks for the ideas.
