    Noob Mistake please help

So i just bought my 10 wrx about a week ago so im still getting used to driving a different manual car. So today i passed a guy doing a 30 in a 55. I started to pass him not really getting on it but enough to hurry cause of trafffic up ahead as soon as i got back in my lane i went to shift from 3rd to 4th, i know i know, i got 2nd instead SUPRISE! anyway when i shifted from 3rd in hopes for 4th i didnt bring the car passed 6k, when i hit 2nd as soon as i let the clutch out it jumped between 7k and 7.5k. I quickly pushed the clutch back in and put it in nuetral. i dont even think the car completely down shifted cause as soon as i let the clutch out it went right back in without hesitation. I know the rev limiter doesnt work for down shifting but from what i read there is a fuel cutt off that happens at a certain RPM. Does this apply for a down shift? Also, the car seems to be running fine and i do "not" have any CEL. I don't think i have a bent valve or anything, the idle seems fine and i don't hear any unusual noise. My main question is should i be concerned? I just got the car and my power terrain is extended to 100,000. The car itself only has 31k miles on the odometer. But im not sure if there going to charge me cause i just got the car about a week ago. Im just anal about my car just like everyone else. Some one please give me some advice. Also, if the wastegate is broke or a vacuum leak would i get code for that. Im pretty machanically inclined but this is my first forced induction car.

A bent calve is usually easy to tell by the way the car runs but some owners only discover them post mortem.

If it runs and there is no CEL you can either tear down the motor and see if anything went wrong or forget about it.

    I'd forget about it.

so you rev'd to 7-7.5K on a completely warmed up engine one time? I wouldn't be too concerned about it unless you are noticing something that is giving you concern.

yea it was completely warmed up, but i did just pull out of the car wash like 5 minutes before. Wouldnt be so worried if it was upshifting but in this case on a down shift rev up to 7.5k or so. Car seems fine im just paranoid cause im well aware of the damage that it could have done, But also im not that knowledgable about forced induction, would i get a code if something happened to my turbo or waste gate? And im pretty sure if something serious was wrong the CEL would turn on. Is there a fuel cutt off for down shifting to a high RPM? i know there is for upshifting but i know there isnt a rev limiter on downshifting? Its been 2 days and the car is still running so i know the valves are good or atleast i hope

Sorry, I was trying to make a point about forgetting.

You're concerned so go ahead and do a compression check.

Oh lol no, I thought you meant you forgot what i was talking about. I even said to my self forgot>? How can you forget something that i typed above? lol I think its fine, no CEL, no noises, doesn't drive like a bent valve or sound like one plus i would of snapped it by now driving around, im just Mr. anxiety over here about his car he just bought a week ago. But my question i had from before, would i get a CEL if something was wrong with my waste gate or my tubro in general? And is it easy so notice if you have a boost leak, stuck open waste gate, etc..?

A boost leak, waste gate issue, or according to some even a bent valve may not be noticed, nor produce a CEL.

ok you tryin to freak me out lol? If it was a bent valve and i couldnt tell then i would think that it would be a minute bend that it wouldnt even matter otherwise drive hard on it would cause it to snapped a shoot a piston. is there a way to check the waste gate? like the flange or something?

I am trying to calm you down. If you have no CEL and no other symptoms just move forward, but with more careful shifting.

If it feels ok let it be.

No issue here. There are some people that rev to 7+ on a regular basis. Not for me, but some do. Unless you notice an issue the engine is fine.'nuff said.
