    No tire squeal before abs

I have Yokohama YK520 all season tires on my car and when I make aggressive turns they will squeal at the limit of traction but under hard braking there is no squeal before abs kicks in. Is this normal?

Yes both sets of tires I have had on this car do exactly that.

Normal in my experiences with ABS, it means ABS is doing it's job. I've had the tires chirp if I'm slamming the brakes, but nothing like scrubbing the tires through a turn.

Normal. ABS should kick in before it locks and screeches.
I had the YK580(The "improved" YK520) for 2 weeks. Awful cornering tire IMO.

Any tire would squeal when you are turning on the cusp of its upper limits....

Unless the ABS prevents it from reaching that upper limit

...My tires don't squeal under hard braking ever, for what it's worth. Be it blizzaks or my RE-11s. They don't squeal much on hard turns either, actually. Or at least not loud enough to register over an EWG.

Agree with all...Completely normal for squeel on hard cornering and no squeel when ABS kicks in.

    That's why I said turning

That's the point of ABS...to stop your brakes from locking up. When you squeal from braking, you've reached the point of the brakes locking up, which ABS prevents.

I don't even know why these two things are being mentioned together since they really don't have anything to do with each other.

yeah, that would be pretty sketchy if the abs came on in a corner!

    Yup, agreed.

I was mainly (attempting to) drive two points
1.) The ABS kicks in before your tires are at the limit in terms of braking
2.) I haven't noticed my tires squealing much, even during hard cornering. I'm sure it is dependent on the tire.

Thanks for everyone's responses. I mentioned that the tires are rather vocal before they reach their limit to give everyone an idea of how the tires behave. My thought process being they would be squealing indicating they were nearing the limit of grip before abs would activate and keep them from locking up.

@UEDan Yes, I agree with you this tire is practically useless in all conditions but it came with the car and I'm waiting until the summer to upgrade to summer rubber.
