Shifter hard to move, cause?

So recently my shifter is acting up. very sporadic, shifting in and out of gear it gets very stiff and much harder to more around. Although harder it still goes into gear fine just moving it there is harder. any ideas on what this is?

Binding shifter cables, bad bushings, could even be something inside the transmission.

Only way to find out is to take a look at things.

How cold has it been where you live? Mine is pretty hard to shift when it is super cold, which it has been lately...After it warms up it is fine though.

EDIT - I notice you live in SC, probably not the weather
