    A/C compressor turning on abnormally?

Hey, all I'm wondering if there is an issue with my interior fan. Here goes: I started noticing a soft click every 10-20 seconds while driving my 2003 WRX. To further isolate, I flipped open the hood and notice that whenever I have the interior fan on, the AC compressor (I think?) will turn on and off for 10 or so seconds. When it turns on, it makes the click that I first noticed. Also, the compressor runs really loudly. This seems to happen regardless of whether AC is on or the heater is on. The only constant is that if the fan is off, the noise stops. Is this normal? Am I mis-identifying the parts involved? Here's a video that shows what's happening (fan on, AC off). Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks -Joe
