Coolant conditioner - add any time?

I had my dealership replace the coolant about a month ago. Big mistake, they did crappy work, outrageous pricing. Anyway, I had them put in the extended life coolant, the green version, but neglected to ask for the conditioner as well.

Now I'm reading that the gasket is prone to failure, and the coolant conditioner really does a good job of prolonging the life. Question - as the subject states - can I just buy the conditioner and add it in myself? Any special procedure? Where do I add it?

    Sorry for the noob question.

did you ask your dealership if they put it in? They might have...

You should be able to put it in at any point.

As of my best judgement, you should still be able to add it in. New coolant still, just blast your heater and burp it after you're doneto get it through the system.
Still don't know how you can screw up fluid exchanges, unless you forget a cap and coolant pours out.

Don't quote me on that though. At Toyota we just exchange fluid, our parts dept doen't give us conditioner. Not even power steering cleaner for power steering exchanges. But you just flush the old fluid out, add new fluid, and to make sure there's no air bubbles in your system you blast the heat once you're up to temp so the coolant flows more, and burp your hoses. Nothing really secial about it.

he shouldn't need to burp anything. Just wait until the car is cold... use a turkey baster to bull out some of the coolant... add the conditioner and go.

How would that work exatly? Like, why pull it out? Just to make room for the conditioner?

yes. Just to make room for the conditioner. And just pull out of the overflow tank... not out of the rad or the upper reservoir

Agreed. "Normal" Subaru procedures include conditioner.
