A catback alone should not throw a CEL. But you will need a tune for a turb back.
There are a few choices for tuning: professional (at a shop), e-tune (by email using logs) and Cobb Accessport plug and play tune using off the shelf maps.

Hey y'all, I plan on getting a full after market exhaust( turbo back) or possibly just a cat back exhaust. I guess my question is if I get a turbo back or a cat back exhaust will my car throw a check engine light? Is there any tuners or programmers I can buy that will keep the CEL light from popping? Thanks

First off ERRAH, another Marine to this site. I got a turbo back (now) and it sounds much better than just the CBE. I would say get the TBE and wait to install until you can get a tune or an AP.
Sorry forgot all about that.. 2002 wrx, manual. No mods besides AEM CAI.
Mine as installed on Saturday. I havnt driven it but I checked to se if my CEL was on and its not. So no your car shouldn't throw a cel but don't forget you will need a tune for a TBE.
