Subaru Extra S online in qt bottles thanks to Fred Beans!

Like the title states, Fred Beans dealership is shipping Subaru Extra S in the qt bottles.

You can buy it at amazon (I just did shipping is cheaper), or off of Fred Beans website.

Hopefully this is profitable for them and something that they continue to do!

Yikes. $20 per quart. Needless to say they should make a killing with that 100% profit margin.

$15 a quart on the amazon link, or when you add it to the cart at Fredbeansparts.com

Locally the best I can get is redline or Amsoil at $16.99 a qt.

Sure, but the fact of the matter is that a 5 gallon drum of Extra S costs $150. That's $8.15 a Pint. Factor in $1.50 for the bottle, you have $9.65 per Pint in overhead cost. Assuming that you can pay someone $10 an hour to fill the pints, (that's approx. 30 minutes of work @ $0.25 a Pint) and finally to factor in a $5 disposal fee per drum ($0.12 a Pint), we're now at a total manufacturer cost of $10.02 per Pint. Since Fred Beans is selling for $20 per Pint, they're making $9.98 in Profit... nearly a 100% profit margin!!

Well first off they are selling it in quarts.

Second yes I know how much the drum of oil costs (but it ends up being over $200 shipped if you buy one) but my car has 86k miles on it, ill never use the whole drum-o-oil.

Third, a comparable oil is $16.99 a quart so its competitively priced.

Fourth, they are in business to make money. And you forgot the shipping depts time, the managing of the online sales persons time, general overhead like power, lights, computers, etc.

At the end of the day they may make $3 a bottle, but IMO that's awesome because they have a product I can't source locally anymore, and don't want to buy a drum of.

Agreed. At $20 a quart, they would not be.

Thought about this... but storage and electricity and resource management would come down to fractions of a cent per quart. It's not worth mentioning. Furthermore, the shipping department costs are typically included in "shipping costs." The $ you pay to ship something from Amazon to your door is rarely ever the actual cost of shipping the product as quoted by UPS.

Yes, I agree. 30-50% is an acceptable profit margin without price gouging. The fact of the matter is that there is a market for the fluid and very few distributors. People will even pay upwards of $20 per quart.

I am in the same situation, where I can't find a seller locally, and I don't want a drum of fluid sitting in my garage.

I was able to find it on ebay from 42 Autosports for the same price.

My Extra-s Showed up yesterday. They were in brand new bottles that looked like clear quart peroxide bottles, with a Fredbeans made label that said something like "Extra-s sold by Fred Beans you're only Extra-S quart supplier".

Looks like new gear oil, smells like gear oil.

The box was divided into 6 partitions like a wine bottle box. Quarts were packed in with packing peanuts.

My only criticism (though it wasn't an issue) is that Fredbeans should have got the bottles with the little foil seal that you use a heat gun to apply to seal the bottle so there will be no leaks if the package is jostled in transit while upside down.

I just bought super S at my local dealer for $7.90/qt.

    $15/qt seems kinda nuts methinks.

Though, I'm extremely pleased at how nicely my car shifts now.... that stuff makes the trans like butta
