    Interesting Noise

Okay guys I have a problem. I keep hearing a noise and I cant figure out where it is or what is causing it. I'll try to explain it the best I can.

So when I'm driving you cant hear it, but anytime I left of the accelerator you can briefly hear it between 2300-2500 rpm. It only occurs then and if I dont have the gas pedal in or the clutch in. It happens in any gear but it is the loudest in 4th. The noise itself is definitely metallic (of course) and it kind of sounds like something rubbing against something else.

Thats the best way I know to describe it. Any ideas would be awesome.

You used the stock heatshield when you replaced the DP? I thought you had to cut the stock heatshield to get the aftermarket DP to fit.

Maybe he had an aftermarket heatshield to begin with? Idk. You definitely can't use the OEM one

On my lunch break I will take a picture of my engine bay. Granted I got my STi used. I knew what had been done to it and the guy had put it all back to original when he traded it in. If there is something I need to do I definitely want to know cause I dont want to mess anything up.

Well that makes it certain that it is not the heatshield. There is no heatshield.

My main concern is I dont want to tear something up and the noise is rather annoying. I didnt replace any of the hangers for the exhaust. Think it might help to change those out?

As a side note, you really ought to have a heatshield in place. Aftermarket shields are only $50, and are far less of a PITA to remove/install than the &$%#-ing OEM one. The shield helps isolate the turbo heat, making the turbo more efficient, and dramatically reducing the chances of heat-soaking the intercooler, especially in the summer.
