    Subaru "ticking" noise

Im on my second WRX... Went from my 08 to a new 2011 last year. I know that WRX's are known for that so called infamous "tick" sound they make when accelerating and idling but does anybody know what it's actually coming from??? And would anybody happen to know the reasoning behing the noise seemingley getting more intense as the mileage goes up? I'm ow at 27k... I just can't help but think that it just doesn't sound "right" at all even though I know it's a normal Subaru noise... THANKS!!

I do not have any ticking noise.

Is it when the rear wiper is working? Because the relay does make a ticking sound.

my 02 does a very similar noise to what you are describing. im told its normal operation and have not been able to get a contrary answer as of yet. as far as i can tell it seems to come from around the intake manifold. it almost sounds like an exhaust leak when driving next to a wall but i had my mechanic look at it and couldnt find any leaks.

The constant ticking is the injectors and valves. The occasional tick and clank while accelerating is the waste gate.

There is a sentence somewhere in the manual stating valve noise should be investigated but I can't find it, don't remember in which section, and I've convinced myself mine are noisy and have been since day 1. Car delivered with 6 miles on the clock. So I've no clue, sorry.

You might also be hearing the injector solenoids at idle.

Injector noise, it's normal. When you start hearing a much more metallic tick that increases in both frequency and volume with RPM increases, then you can start to suspect valve noise, and it should probably be looked at. But the more subdued noise that is more prevalent at idle is your injectors.

These threads are about as common as "Where is my Subaru?" threads.

That "ticking noise" is nothing to be concerned about. All of us have the same thing...it's just the "time bomb" that's under the back seats.
