    Dipstick Pic Needed

The front diff dipstick (on the right hand side of the Tx) on my 2004 has seized in the tube and the handle snapped off so I'm going to have to resort to drilling and prying to get the remnants out. I would be really grateful if someone could provide a photo (preferable with something for scale) of a removed stick so I know what I'm working on.

    Thanks

First post? Welcome to the Club!

I think this is what you want. The dipstick is turned 180 degrees so I have better access to the turbo / DP. The "hat" shaped bit is where the dipstick body makes contact with the filler tube.

I have more images if this is not what you are after.

Does this help? 10 cm from tip to blue plastic, then another 10 cm to rivets. Hidden length when fully inserted is 26 cm, from cap to tip.

EDIT: It can't help, it's too blurry. Don't know why; using Tapatalk.

Description: The tip is 10 cm long until that blue plastic thing. Then the distance from the blue plastic to the bottom end of the base, that is yellow/gold and split into two different strands of metal, is another 10cm. Where the strands meet at the bottom of the base, two rivets hold the silver dip stick to the base. The "cap" is the part you see externally, as in Sasquatch's picture above. From the cap to the tip of the dip stick is 26 cm. Under the cap, the metal splits into those two strands, then is riveted together again and the silver dip stick part is attached to those rivets.

PM either Torque or Drews, both will be glad to send you a pic of their dipstick with a ruler next to it.

I'd be happy to do the same as well.

Remember that when you drill it out, the bits will end up in your transmission…

    Thanks !

Thanks for the photos - now I need to get at it. I'm hoping I can use a magnet to 'catch' most of the bits.

Well if the handle snapped off, do you see the part that would hold two little rivets? That's where the silver actual "dip stick" piece would attach. If you have needle nose pliers, and know a contortionist and a magician, the two of them could probably get it out without resorting to drilling. From what you've seen of my pic, which part is stuck inside the gearbox?
