Hi, I'm new to this forum and a WRX owner. I just bought a 2003 WRX. It only has 58K on it but when I step on the gas, I notice a spinning sound. It doesn't matter how lightly or strongly I step on the gas, the spinning sound starts again. It's a low and subtle spinning sound. I used to drive a 1997 civic so I'm not sure if that's the turbo in the WRX or if its something else. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Only when its in gear. Its coming from the front, sounds like its coming from the engine. Oh, btw, my WRX is an automatic...major sin I know. =(
Is it modded at all? If it has an aftermarket intake or downpipe you can hear a wooshing sound that I guess could be considered a spinning sound... I'd take it to a shop personally, very very hard for someone to diagnose a sound without hearing it in person.
That's a tough one to figure out over the interwebs. Your best bet would be to have a trained technician listen to it. I don't know that you'll get much solid help on that one

Thank you for every ones help. Monk_Knight..its not modded now, but I had to put the original uppipe back in. I guess I'll have to take it to a mechanic and have it looked at.
I hope you didn't have to pay too much to have the original uppipe re-installed, it's in your best interest to have a non-catted uppipe.

Does the spinning sound make more noise the harder you are on the gas?
Does the spinning sound happen in all gears?

Paid about $500 for the uppipe. Had to do it or else it wouldn't pass smog here in california. =(
oh and the spinning sound does not get louder when I step harder on the gas..its a pretty consistent spinning sound. Can't seem to hear it after what appears to be 3rd gear (WRX is an auto but I used to drive stick), but that might be because the road noise drowns it out.
