I have a 2003 WRX. Recently a couple of months ago the timing belt went out while driving on the highway. I know that is a really bad thing and yes the timing belt had been replaced within the last 2 years. My Rex has about 121k miles on it the belt was changed out at 100k along with the water pump. The service shop that changed the belt has a 2 year 20k mileage warranty....I was past the 20k so they would only cover the parts not the labor. The labor was going to be $500 just to replace the belt to see if the engine would turn over....which it probably wouldn't. I decided to have it towed to my house and have kept it in my garage since. My original plan was to try and replace the belt myself, but that is too daunting a task for someone like myself with very limited automotive repair knowledge.
So, my question is this. What is my best course of action?
Do I try to sell it as is to someone who is looking for it to rebuild or for parts?
Do I part it out and sell the parts individually?
Do I just scrap it and sell it to a junk yard?
Do I try to take the time to fix it myself?
At this point I want to get as much money out of it as I can....considering that I now have a car payment again since I had to buy a new car.
It pains me to have to give up on what was my dream car, but money is tight and I just do not have the time nor knowledge to fix it myself.
