it's because a BOV isn't designed for our cars. All of the air (quite a bit) that's being let out of the intake tract, was metered by the MAF (mass air flow sensor). With that gone, the engine runs rich between shifts. Rich means that there's excess fuel in the combustion chamber. That means that not all of it finishes burning in the cylinder, and some of it burns in the exhaust tract... which causes the back fire.

You're getting afterfire after installing an aftermarket VTA BOV. That's not uncommon.

Did you properly adjust the valve?

If you didn't add washers, you did it wrong.

either way it's not so hot for your car. I'd sell it and put the stocker back on.

Yea im starting to side with that idea of going back to stock. I was originally looking at the turbo xs hybrid 50/50 (blow off/recirc) valve... but some dip **** convinced this dip **** to buy the atmospheric one instead...

I refuse to purchase anything from TurboXS.

If you want a good partial recirc, I'd only purchase the Cobb one (most expensive, and best produced right now) APS one (Best one, but no longer produced), or the GFB one. I'm still not 100% that I like GFB stuff, but they're 100x better than TurboXS or HKS. And it sounds like there are quite a few people that dig them.

You can get a Perrin bpv. I have had mine for a long time with no problems and it is pretty loud for a bpv.

I looked at the GFB bpv/bov but the big turn off was the price. GFB is an Australian company in which the aussies are pretty much the gods of WRC... But Perrin does have the one bpv/bov that im looking at now too.. Im not impressed it but they are one of the best companies that produce subaru parts. My buddy is running a TIAL bov and it seems to work just fine. It was a total instal and go setup unlike mine..

That tial is an awesome valve. BUT... it's not designed for a MAF system. It's designed for a MAP system.

I don't think the issue with a properly adjusted valve is as bad as some say, but I'd still rather not push my luck. Some talk about "cylinder wash" (where rich conditions wash oil off of the cylinder walls and increase cylinder wear), and tickets from the fireball on shifts.. lol.

Only reason why I have an APS 50/50 is because I'm at 21psi, and many people start talking about valve leak above 18-20psi with the stock one.

Honestly, my tuner said that the EJ series motors don't mind too much fuel and that "cylinder wash" isn't really an issue. He knows what he is doing so I trust him...
