Hey everyone, i'm new to ClubWRX forums and hopefully soon I will own my first v7 wrx sti. I went and test drove an sti that is in my price range and is seemingly pretty much exactly what I want. She drove perfect, looks perfect and sounds amazing.
HOWEVER...the one problem the owner addressed was that if the car is left in torrential rain just parked for an extended period i.e overnight, that when you go to drive it the next day when you first start the car it sounds like a couple of cylinders have gone and that it sounds like a lumpy cam engine. He said that what he would do is rev the engine for a couple of minutes which would get rid of the water and then she would run perfect. He said that if you didn't rev the engine and get rid of the water that when you went to drive it the turbo just wont kick in and he said it feels just like when you reach the speed limiter and your engine refuses from letting you go faster. When driving in the rain he said there is absolutely no problem as with the engine being warm the water does nothing as it'll be turned into steam. The owner has taken the car to a subaru specialist and they were unable to figure out what was wrong, they checked the engine and turbo and they said it was seemingly perfect and nothing was wrong, which lead them to believe it was an electrical problem. In the left part of the engine bay there is a couple of mounts above some wiring/fuses where a cover obviously used to be placed however it is no longer there. The owner thought that possibly the water getting on that wiring is causing the problem to arise.
The current owner always garages the car so he never experiences this problem anymore, however where I live parking on the road is mandatory and I don't have any offsite parking. Furthermore, in Auckland, New Zealand during winter we will definately get a lot of rain which has got me slightly worried...The water will be coming through the bonnet scoop and on inspection of the bonnet scoop it seems as if I could put some sealent on the underside of the hood to block any water coming through the seals and then the water would only come through the scoop itself.
Below are some pictures of the area in the engine bay i'm talking about and also click on the link below to see the auction of the car and some more pictures.

Should I be scared? Does anyone know what this problem is/could be? Long story short should I buy this car or not?
