    Exhaust set up question

Hey guys I have question, if I run a Cobb downpipe and spt CBE, will I need ecu management or is it ok without it? Everything is stock on the car, 03 bugeye. I dont want anything to detonate, so I wanted to ask you guys first. Also wanted to ask , would it pass smog or will I have to put the stock one back on, thanks in advance.

You can run a full exhaust on a bugeye without a tune

You should get one though to get the most power gains out of the car

Tune is not nesicary, but you won't gain much power without it.

As far as emissions, you shall not pass!

Whether you pass emissions all depends on where you live...

Yeah.. if you're car is registered in a county that doesn't test emissions, then you'll pass.

What are smog requirements in your area?

If you're going to be replacing the downpipe, make sure you also tackle the uppipe while you're there.

i live in Cali, and as far as i know, we do an idle test for smog. would i need a catted uppipe? sorry im really new to this, what does the uppipe help with? opens up restrictions on the turbo? is it absolutely necessary? without a tune, what kind of gains am i looking at? im kind of low on money at the moment -_-, so far all i have is the cobb dp, not installed yet. saving up for a cbe and CAI at the moment...so i should save for an uppipe too? and maybe a cobb ap down the road?

so i was reading the uppipe thread and i saw that 03+ requires a tune, but it doesnt state if its catted or not...im really confused about the uppipe too. from what i read it seems to me...that the uppipe should be replaced with a catless up pipe for preventative maintenance? and you have to account for the egt and cel light when you do this? or is the stock up pipe ok as it is? i see a catless sti uppipe on craigslist for $80, should i just get that to go with the cobb dp? sorry for all the questions. if anyone can tell me or point me in the right direction, it'll be much appreciated. thank you. one last thing, anyone know if i'll pass smog in cali with the up/dp and cbe?

04+ requires a tune, not 03+. Where did you read that?

The reason for replacing the UP is to prevent your higher HP levels from shredding your cat and causing metal to shred your engine. That STI UP is a good choice, or you can just gut your stock one for free (other than the cost of new gaskets).

You won't pass without a catted DP and probably won't pass with a catted one either. You also won't pass the visual inspection. You'll need to keep your stock DP for emissions testing.
