    Is my car safe to drive?

    I believe my car is misfiring(the engine is shaking bad). I need to run the car to autozone to get the check engine light codes read to be sure. But is it safe to drive my car?

    No rod knock
    No leaks
    Engine temps are fine
    Car starts fine
    Car does smell bad(it runs lean)

    If its shaking as bad as you say I wouldn't drive it! Got any friends that have a code reader or an AP?

    Also running it lean will destroy your emissions system.

    I got a rod knock 3 months ago and had the engine rebuilt to a 2.5L. It was then that I found out I had an 18G turbo and sti pinks. Since then the car has been running fine, if only a little lean. I was going to get it tuned but after replacing the engine, money has been non existent. It has some kind of open source tune(from before I bought the car).

    Other mods;
    short ram intake
    catless uppipe
    3" exhaust

    I realize not ideal/safe, but i just threw down 4k to fix my engine so finding 600 bucks for a pro tune is tough.

    I hear ya! I'm in the process of fixing mine too...I would suggest not driving it...find a way to get those codes read and a proper tune...if its not too late...let's hope it's not!

    I'm gonna have it looked at by my mechanic early next week. Hopefully it's no big deal. I'm feeling more and more that it's a misfire(if anyone has any experience with this some advice would be good).

    Apparently Cobb has a place here in Utah so I'm gonna try and get it tuned next month, or as soon as possible.

    I am willing to bet that this is most of the problem, if not all...

    If you need to replace the engine again, then check out GVI Autowerks in West Valley and ask for Roman... They'll take good care of you..
