Does not start. any ideas before i start pulling it apart?

I own a 2002 wrx. The other day I was on my way home when the engine cut out. It made no noise whatsoever out of the ordinary before the engine cut off. I pulled off the road and attempted to start the car but it wouldn't start. I had it towed to my house. I checked fuel flow and fuel flow was good. The check engine light had come on shortly before the engine cut off so I checked to see what code it would throw but it showed no codes. I figured then that the timing belt was probably blown, which is a nightmare, but from what I know, the engine should be turning over fast and smooth with a blown timing belt whereas my car is turning over slower than normal. Any ideas what it could be before I go pulling off the rocker cover? It has 131,000 miles. The only aftermarket parts are arm cold air intake and hks blowoff valve.

How old is the battery? What does the car do when you try to start it?
Life is like riding a bicycle in order to keep your balance you must keep moving.

Battery is about 2 months old. Turns over slower than normal but smoothly. It doesn't stutter at all when it turns over. I believe it could be a ground that's been pulled away but not sure. There was no noise when the engine cut off so it don't feel I blew the timing belt.
