    Exclamation Broken AC Pulley disk

    Hello Comrades,

Hope everyone is having a great summer. Pretty much my first post here

Heard a pretty nasty metal grinding sound coming from the engine bay as I was rolling in to work this afternoon. 09 WRX

Opened the hood and saw it right away:

Did a little bit of research and seems like that the AC Pulley disk that's broken? (am I right?)

If that's the case, is it driveable to the dealership? A while back I heard someone say that I could just cut the belt?

How does this crap happen, is this typical?

That is the compressor pulley. Remove the belt and do not use the defroster or the A/C.
The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry. Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms, 1929

The compressor clutch fell off, it happens from time to time but is perfectly safe to drive, although your a/c won't work until it's fixed. It's sometimes cheaper to replace the whole compressor.

I have seen this a couple times on these cars....might be worth a call to the dealer to see if its covered. depending on your mileage of course...BTW those belts are a SOB to replace, Ive done a couple of them...when you buy the $60 belt from the dealer they give you a little wedge which is supposed to aid in re installation...
