Thats pretty much it. Just make the flats long enough for yourself that the lower lip/bumper will clear the next step up.
If your car wont clear 1.5" then thats uh pretty freakin low. Simple is sometimes better.
Heck, they even nest into each other and save space.

I like that. Might try that myself.
Simple solutions.. I have used boards, bricks, etc. Just find something that will fit, and step your way up.

Ok, I built my ramps & changed my oil this weekend. I used one 14' 2x8 to make both ramps. I was quite pleased with the overall height considering it only cost me $10.

Nice! Is it tempting to paint them with truck bed liner or are you free of those thoughts? They are a terrific idea and the price is very right! Great post thanks.

hahaah.. you dirtay bastige.. you said you'd never tell!
Actually I have that blue aluminum jack, have had for a few years now. It works great and is actually quite low profile. Its also nice because less than a quarter swing on the lever will work to slowly lift the car until you can get more travel on the lever.

SUCH IS MANGO!
Quit being a cheap-oThe jack I bought from Harbor Freight is perfect. It's a little more expensive, and really (REALLY) heavy, but it's super low profile and lifts the car easily and quickly. It's long enough to get to the jack plate on the engine cross member without even coming close to my bumper.
