Lovebugs and my hood scoop: I need a solution

Hey guys, I'm going to driving from south to north florida. Anyon who has done this drive in the summer knows that those damn lovebugs cloud the sky. I'm worries about my hood scoop sucking up all of those bugs and plastering my intercooler. Do any of you know of a bug screen I can put over the scoop? I have a 2011 wrx.

I agree Des.. but as with every creature roaming the planet they must serve some sort of purpose in the greater scheme. IF not to just destroy paint lol

You can also make your own ic protector. I went to lowes and got some mesh for a screen door and put that in there. It catches all kinds of stuff.

Edit: here is the link for the 08+ guys. Basically the same for previous years tho

I wouldn't worry about anything except your paint. Just use a pressure washer every once and a while.

When I was living in Spring Hill I used the bug n tar remover stuff while at the local pay n spray.. just have to be careful with the high pressure rinse that you dont get too close to the paint (or chipped areas) .. it'll blow the paint off if you catch the edge of a chip.

Also, what helps is keeping the car waxed with a good healthy coat of carnuba on the nose. I used to put 1 coat on the whole car and two more on just the nose. (hood/bumper/fenders)

In regards to the ic though.. not much you can do to stop them coming into the scoop.. but you might be able to coat the intercooler in pam or some other non-flammable non stick stuff. If you use a screen or the like they're just going to cover it and choke off airflow.

I HATE LOVEBUGS! Lived near New Orleans for 8 years and the first year, I got tired of cleaning them off every day so I decided I'd just leave them for the few weeks they're around and clean them off after. Dead bugs battery acid bodies ate right through clear coat, base coat and into the primer.

Ive heard that painters tape, when heated up, can strip the paint off of your car.

Where are those fancy leather nose masks? Dont they still make'm?

Im wondering if the scoop protector screen is fine enough.
