So this evening I'm driving home from the in law's and I noticed the turbo spool was 5x louder than it normally is (no lie). As I started giving it gas, I could hear the spool very clearly around 2k-2.5k RPM's. My 09 WRX is 100% stock so hearing the turbo spool and the BPV make any noise is very rare. So I started giving it a little bit more gas in 2nd and 3rd gear and the spool was really loud all the way up to about 3k - 3.5k RPM's. Once I got past 3.25k - 3.5k RPM's, the turbo stopped spooling (completely) and then started back up again around 3.75k to 4k RPM's. I did this a hand full of times and probably once or twice it made a very unusual fluttering sound. It almost sounded like a hose was loose and the greater the force, the hose was like completely getting blown off. I immediately backed off once I heard this. I pulled over, checked the BPV to see if anything was loose. Couldn't find anything. Got home and checked again in the garage and still couldn't find anything.
Is something wrong w/ my BPV? Turbo?
I will admit, on my way up to my in laws, I was behind a Astin Martin Vanquish and we got into it a few times (wow, that thing can fly). However, I didn't do anything that I haven't done before...just got her into the 5k-6k RPM range.
I'm going to try and get it into the shop Wednesday and have it looked at. Does anybody have any idea what the heck happened?

Yes... you need engine management for engine modifications

Just what I can think of:
-inspect all hoses, pipes post turbo, and the IC end tanks as well,
-check your oil to rule out your turbo losing oil (i.e. turbo seals)
-feel under the turbo for leakage, around the oil return line
-up pipe gasket (?)
Experts will have more advice.
Check engine light never came on.
I didn't inspect a lot around the turbo b/c it sounded like it was coming from the drivers side. I'll look around the turbo now. I did just get an oil change last week (Wednesday I think). Thanks for the suggestions mudferret...I'll look @ some of that stuff now.

I'd first look at the hoses, but with an '09, they should be fine. Are you still under warranty?

Yeah....I have the 7yr/100k warranty so I'm figuring this will be taken care of without my wallet coming out.

The first trick is not to hijack some random thread with your question. The second step is to search the forum, especially the maintenance section for answers to your question. After you have exhausted all possibilities, you may post a new thread with a detailed question about what you need to know.
So sounds like the recirculating bypass valve is not operating right (stuck open?) and needs to be replaced. They are ordering a new. Anyone every seen this happen before?
