    Oil change

So I am thinking about changing my own oil. I have 2010 WRX and I have had my 2 prior oil changes done by the dealer. The car just hit 8,000 miles.

Can I switch to a fully synthetic motor oil on this change? Also what oil filter do you recommend? Thanks for the info.

i also have a 2010. im about to do my 4th oil change since i bought it. i switched to fully synthetic mobil 1 on the first oil change and have had no issues at all. based on the 2011 manuals, all the forced induction subarus are now required to have synth, so you should definetly switch over right now if you are changing your oil soon.

as far as oil filters, there are many people with differing opinions, but I have been using the blue colored subaru filters from my local dealers parts dept. they are only $8 or so.

also, if you are DIY'ing it, make sure you get a new crush washer from the dealer for the oil pan drain plug. and be carefull with the clips for the engine undercover, they break easily.

Thanks for the heads up on the crush washer and the clips for the under engine cover. What kind of oil do you use. I know there is a massive debate somewhere on here about which oils are best.

Any synthetic is going to do great for you. I personally use Mobil 1 in all my cars, and have for many years. I also use Mobil 1 filters because they filter out smaller particulates than just about anything else out there.

Which Mobil 1 do you use in the Subaru? I believe the Porsche uses 0W-40?
