2002 wrx REALLY COULD USE SOME OPPINIONS! timing mightve skipped a tooth or.....

Ok so ill give you the whole story i have a 2002 impreza wrx wagon, turboxs tb exhaust and stage 2 cobb ap, i got on the freeway after school yesterday and sorta got on it but i got upto like 90 and just felt a loss of so much power, then the check engine starts blinking so i pull out my accessport and scan my car and it gives off like 6 codes not exactly sure which ones, one for miss fire cylinder 1 and one for cyclinder 3 and one for 02 sensor, one for heater core sensor and like 2 or 3 with no description, so i decide to pull over on the side of the freeway, car is running like ****(really rough idle, almost sounded like it had a rod knock, no power)so i turned it off and called my friend/mechanic and i head up to his work, they look it over oil is fine but the car is to hot to touch at this point so they let it cool down and check the coils and plugs cylinders 2 and 3 both had plugs that the tips looked like had melted down(def not a good sign), and the other 2 plugs kinda dirty needed to be replaced so i had all 4 coils and plugs done and a normal tune-up, start the car still runs like **** and now can hear a ticking, havent driven it since i brought it there. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME OPPINIONS

Ticking, like in the heads? Is it coming from one side of the engine? For some reason when someone says ticking I think valves.

It doesn't sound good. My guess would be some kind of mechanical failure. Have you drained the oil and checked for any kind of particles? Maybe cut the filter open and see what's in there too.

Honestly, from there I would either see if you can get someone with a scope to look inside the cylinders, or pull the engine and remove the heads.

Hopefully it's not as bad as I'm thinking..

ya i was either going to pull the motor and send it to ams performance to have it built or just buy a stock 2.0t but no havent done that ill drain it tomorow but not even positive but i think it was coming from the drivers side, my guess was that some of the valves got bent

So what is wrong with the motor, why, and how can you know you need a replacement?

I've got one laying around that I'm getting ready to part out, but would also consider selling as a whole. But as SD_GR said, you might want to figure out what's wrong with it and see how much it will cost to fix before you replace the whole thing. (replacing a valve or two is MUCH cheaper than replacing the entire engine)

Google search " Subaru shortblock". Do compression/leak down test.
