    crank but no start

ive got a 97 subaru impreza brighton, i went to start it the other day and it wont start , it cranks over fine and sounds normal, there is no spark no fuel, and the check engine light does not come on when turning the car on, i hooked up the reader the the ECM and it will not communicate, there is power leading to the ECM but still no check engine light so no complete circuit, my battery reads 12.6 v and all other car components function correctly from what i can see any suggestions?

It's a 97' so it's a relatively older model. Did you do any modifications to the car recently? Have you checked all electrical connections to make sure nothing is loose? You want to be particularly sure that electrical connections to the fuel system are ok. Who told you to get a new ECU? By the way, no one calls it a control module any longer. That's medieval. lol. Check to make sure you don't have a clogged fuel filter. Can you hear your fuel pump when you turn the key to the on position? If not, it may be a fuel pump relay. Check to make sure you have clean injectors. You may also have a bad MAF. These are just some basic things to check for starters. Good luck and let us know if you figure it out. Will probably need more info though.

Check your battery connections and engine grounds. Clean and re-torque them.

no mods, all stock, i cant hear the fuel pump trying to kick on at all, and there is no spark, it has to be some sort of power loss somewhere, but i cant figure out where, i got the new ECU because of the lack of communication with the ECU with the reader, it should only be some sort of power loss which is causing the problem, the lack of check engine light upon starting is also a big sign that there is no power somewhere in the system, i ma taking the car to the shop today so we can look at it and probe the he// out of it to find the power loss source, i will keep you updated on whats going on, but any other insight would greatly be appreciated, thank you for the help so far.

it turned out to be a relay above the internal fuse block under the steering column, when we were testing all of the power sources in the car we bumped the relay and the light came back on and the car started, i am replacing the relay tomorrow, but i think it is going to cost an arm and a leg, thankyou for all of the help with the problem i had, and just for future reference next time any of yous have this problem check for this relay, it is a brown square relay attached in between two metal round relays all the way up under the steering column, good luck fellow subie owners and thank you for the im put
