EJ20 from Automatic into 5 speed

I have a 2002 WRX 5 speed with a bad motor and picked up a good engine from an automatic to put in there. When changing the timing belt I found out the auto engine doesn't use any timing belt guides. Now will this be a problem since i'm using it with the 5 speed?

I have heard about some motors lacking the guides. I did not know it was related to the gearbox. It may not be for all we still know, since you've only seen two. Are you concerned about high RPM use (something the automatic would not see nearly as frequently as the manual)?

I don't know the answer but also don't know of anything keeping you from installing guides (you already have the hardware, after all).

Is there a guide above the crankshaft sprocket?
