P0442 evap system small leak

Hey guys about a week ago I got this code when the check engine light went on. I cleared the code and the light was off for a week. This morningthe check engine light came back on. I haven't checked but I'm assuming it's the same thing. Anyways, I am wondering if people have had this happen to them before? And what would I have to go through to fix this

Hey thanks I'll try gas cap. I did last time and it didn't work. Did you get the same code as me? Or were you just asking about the evap in that thread

At the time I was just wondering what the hell the one-way valve was. I could identify everything in my engine bay but that piece...

Oops. Sorry I didn even see the one post in that thread. So I should check those valves donkey was talking about?

Also this is a pretty dumb question also but what exactly is the evap system.

it recovers/stores and removes fuel vapors. i used to get it never found a leak.. i just disabled that dtc with my ecu flash.

The code you don’t want to see is a P0442. This indicates the system has detected a SMALL leak, but small leaks can often be a BIG problem to find.......And if you have a P0442 small leak code, you’ll probably have to take your car to a repair shop that has a smoke machine

I didn't know that there were two codes, one for small leak and another for large leak (P0440). Scratch my original gas cap theory... But I would still check your purge valves

Before my cel came on, temp gauge right next to fuel gauge didn't move. It stayed below the cold level( same place it is when car turns off)
