    I'm going with replacing. I've just never had a car with this many miles so that sort of thing doesn't occur to me.

    Ok, so here's an interesting development...I bought the clutch kit and made an appointment to have it replaced. However, recently the problems have pretty much disappeared. The only thing I can think of is that the temperature has been consistently below freezing for the past week or so, but I have no idea why that would affect it.
