    Squealing Sound

I have a 2002 wrx with 165,000 miles and when driving with the window open I hear a squealing sound, mostly when going straight or turning right. I do not hear it when turning left. Could it be the bearings? Had them replaced through warranty at 48,000 miles in 2003.

What kind of squeeling sound and where is it coming from? Describe the sound as best you can please.

Could be wheel bearings, they're a known problem with WRX's. People should consider themselves lucky to see 100k out of their originals.

The sound is a high pitch squeal that I hear only when the window is open but it is very obvious. I do not hear it as much when going higher speeds but that may be because of the other sounds on the road. I very rarely hear it when making left turns and it usually starts after making a right turn.

My brakes are just about due also. The last time was 92,000 miles.

Same thing here to the last detail... and I thought I was all alone. My dad tells me its either my ebrake pads or the wheel bearing. Ive disassemled the brakes and lubed everything... still its there. Starts at about 25-30 and is then squeals till about 40.

Easiest way to check if the wheel bearing is going bad, jack the end of the car up that is to be inspected. Secure it on jack stands. Grab the wheel on the top and bottom, and try to move either end away from the car. If there is play in there, your wheel bearing is likely bad.
