Question need help quick, lots of grinding and wont go in gear

Okay people I was at the street fights lastnight and I had my 02 wrx at the line and I went to pull out at about 5000rpms and it threw itself in neutral with a lot of weird grinding but the pedal is fine but the shifter barely moves back and forth in neutral and won't go in gear its like its locked, we finally got it in second gear and tried to drive it and it grinds when your rolling with the clutch in or out now the shifter is stuck in second but the car is in neutral someone please help!

Congratulations, you destroyed your transmission. You just learned a $4000 lesson.

    Sorry to hear =(.

Dragging these cars is always a risk. It's hard to do correctly, and is very hard on the tranny.

That's an easy one. It just popped the gear set out of synch. Put in in reverse and do another 5000rmp clutch dump. It will pop her right back in!

It sounds much worse than a shift fork because of the problems moving the shifter anywhere at all and the noise.

See if you can find someone with a similar car to yours that's had a worse night and wrecked it, and buy their used transmission. Swap it into yours and don't launch the car on tarmac any more.

Expensive lesson. Ouch. And to think I was mad that I spilled paint in my car. Go get a new tranny.

a 5000 RPM hard launch on a 2002 WRX? and you wonder what happened to your transmission?

    Sorry man, but

$4000 + a rebuilt transmission casing will buy you a pretty solid straight-cut PPG box, so you can launch like an idiot and get away with it. Might want to start saving... or buy a Honda

I have an 03 that I just put an updated 3-4 gear, hub, and sleeve in. If you want new syncros put in I can do that too at your cost in parts and maybe a couple dollars. Let me know.

Interestingly, he lives just a few miles from Bristol Motor Speedway where they held the street fights event 7/22.

Please try to be helpful everybody.

OP - you need a new transmission, sorry for your bad luck at the strip.

Been there, Done that. Your about to find out why they nick-named the tranny's "Glass Transmissions" Although the grip is absolutely incredible in the WRX the alloys weren't up to the torque that the engine supplied. After all was said and done I went with the '04 tranny. Haven't had any problems since. If you must drive it like that you may want to invest in the 6-speed swap. It's costly but worth it. Sorry man, alot of people have been burned by this problem. I was. Set me back about $1200 for the used tranny on Ebay. I consider myself lucky. Oh,by the way, I snapped the main shaft in half while in third gear with the boost turned up. So it really doesn't take much to trash em'

That gear was damaged long before you broke it.
