    squeeks

    Hey guys/gals,

Ive been trying to hunt down 2 sounds for a while now. The first, occurs when im at a stop or going very slow and make a right turn or just turn the wheel. It sounds like a door from the dark ages opening to give you an idea. Would such a terrible sound come from a bad U joint or should I be looking somewhere else. Sound 2 came around as soon as I changed the F/R rotors and pads for replacement OEMs. The brakes work great, along with the E brake, but at 25mph almost exactly the rear drivers side wheel starts squeeling pretty loud. Its a pretty constant sound that appears to go in rythm to how fast the wheel is turning. Ive taken the rotors off, lubed them, knocked all rust off that was behind them, and still the same sound... maybe even louder. Anyone have any ideas or had similar experiences? Thanks for reading/advice.

I wonder if sound 1 is a belt, maybe the steering belt?

Sound 2 could be debris somewhere, maybe lodged between the back of the rotor and something? The alternative is a bearing that is coincidental to your brake work but I'm hoping it's just debris somewhere.

Thats a good idea for sound 1 I hadnt really though about it. Its so hard to tell without having your head under or in the car while it makes the sound. Sound 2 gets louder when I make hard or even medium turns to the right also.. I dont think I could replace a bearing myself after looking at the DIY thread on it. Im affraid to take it somewhere and have them say well you need this this and this, then I spend 200$ and still have the squeek.

That's tough. One bet might be to find a local meet and have other owners listen to it. For the belt though you can listen with another person turning the wheel and see if it might be the steering.

At first I thought it was just the Ebrake or new pads. I got new rims and tires the same day I got the brakes. So I was expecting some sound, but it just never went away. Sound 1 shouldnt be hard to fix and just started a few weeks ago. Sound 2 tho, Ive been listening to that S.O.B for about 6 months now and it hasnt got any better.. maybe even worse

A bearing can whir or shriek, I've heard both. I'd try everything possible to exclude everything else but then I'd give in and take it some place.

If you have a non-contact (IR or "laser") thermometer probe thingie, you might compare the temperatures on one side in the rear vs. the other. Where there is noise there is friction.

I wish i had access to one of those. Im sure where ever the sound is coming from theres alot more friction and heat... im S.O.L there tho. Ill tear the wheel and breaks apart and find where its coming from. There will be signs from metal rubbing. Thanks for the help SD,

If a friend or neighbour does AC repair they'll have a probe. In any case good luck and post back with the outcome.
