Head Gasket Question, should I buy?

My co-worker is selling his 03 WRX wagon with 83K for $2,500
He says it needs a head gasket because there is water in the oil. I'm wondering if this could be a turbo issue, He told me he has never abused the car and i trust him. I'm going to look at the car this weekend, what do you guys think I should pay particular attention to? How much do you think it would cost to get the head gasket and/or turbo replaced? (I won't be doing the work myself) Also is this a common problem with the 2.0L? Thanks for any help you can provide. Rod

I think I have seen one turbo subaru pop a head gasket, also Subaru headgaskets rarely leak internally, Who told him that he needed a head gasket? Does the car hit target boost? Does the car overheat? Is the vehicle burning oil or coolant? Before purchasing it I would bring the vehicle in and have it checked out to see exactly what it needs..I have a gut feeling its not the head gasket, $2500 is a really low price...

Thanks EvoEatr that helps, it looks like I need to get more info from him. The 2,500 bucks is what really got me interested, even if I to put a engine in it. Might still be worth it, it's a nice looking car for a wagon. I'll post what i find out later. thanks

for 2500... I don't care what's wrong with it, buy it if you have the funds to repair.

    +1

If i found a deal like that I'd snag it in a second. Even with the listed issue, I'd probably still put more faith in it than my current ride.

water in the oil is not good in my opinion. My last car blew the head gasket and that happened to me as well. Long story short I had to replace the motor. Hope that helps
