    Exhaust leakage.

Can anyone tell me the symptoms of a leaking uppipe? Ive noticed what I think may be a leaking uppipe due to noise levels that have picked up a bit. Will it affect spool up? Boost spike? 03 WRX COBB AP stage 1 91 oct. CXRacing Alum Radiator.TBE. reverted to stock intake due to constant CEL's. All else that pertains is stock. Thanks in advance...Jason

It depends on how big the leak is. Do you know if it is a stock up-pipe? A leak in your up-pipe can definitely cause problems.

If it is a stock uppipe then you should get a catless uppipe. The stock uppipe has a catalytic converter in it that has destroyed turbos. Good luck.

Ive heard of this happening. But how often does it happen? And when it does, How catastrophic is it? Small chunks? Platinum dust? Or all out failure? Is there any signs of the event about to happen? Well anyways, Im off to Ebay to find a uppipe and header. Any opinions on equal or unequal length headers?

If you have a TBE you should be running a stage 2 map.

A leaking up pipe will affect the performance of the turbo in that all the exhaust gases are not making it to the turbine.

To my knowledge, stock up pipes destroying turbo has happened, but doesn't happen frequently. An after market, cat-less up pipe would be a very wise mod in your situation for both performance and safety reasons. The problem arises when you begin to add other after market exhaust pieces and tune the motor. The heads begin to spew forth more, and hotter exhaust gases than the stock up pipe cat was designed to deal with. This can eventually cause the cat to break up and send pieces into the turbine, destroying it.

I would consider looking into an up pipe by a reputable manufacturer, rather than ebay. True, it's just a pipe, but I think you will find a nicer piece will be of better quality (less prone to cracking or other wise failing) with a better fit (resulting in easier, more solid installation).

Don't waste your money on ebay headers, your stock ones are just fine.

Is it actually Stage 1 or 2? But whichever I feel Exhaust Leakage is not a minor problem. If you're not sure how to deal with it better take it to a shop. Is it still under warranty?
