I'm curious if anyone has seen the failure of the mount where this sensor is located. It sits on the cam cap and it failed as if something impacted it. One mechanic told me it could only have been the cam gear. This mount takes no load, but failed catastrophically. I had the timing belt replaced at 98K. At 108K major failure. Because the mount cannot be repaired, I had to replace the cylinder head and associated components. ~$2K. One mechanic told me that it looked as if the cam bolt was damaged and not replaced at the time of the timing belt service. He thought there was no way the torque could have been checked on that bolt. The gear may have loosened just enough to finally impact the sensor. Does this make sense? Is it possible?
